Building the Dream: What Inspires the #BlueCrew

Building the Dream: What Inspires the #BlueCrew

What is “Building the Dream,” you ask?

Building·the·Dream, noun: The collective passion, ethic, vision, and set of values channeled by a group to achieve a common goal of being extraordinary.

In other words, Building the Dream isn’t an activity: It’s an ethos that permeates everything we do here.

The #BlueCrew is a rather inspired group, and to go along with our motto to #DreamBigger, we are doing that by sharing what exactly it is that inspires us to work toward those dreams.

Every week, one member of the #BlueCrew shares their inspiration. Without further ado, here are some dreamers and what inspires and drives them personally and professionally.

What inspires you? Explaining the inspiration that my parents provide, as well as my brother and sister provide, would not fit in a blog post, so I’ll provide a few book recommendations! Two books specifically inspire me: Ishmael by Daniel Quinn and Less Than Zero by Brett Easton Ellis.

What about this inspires you? Less Than Zero explores the impact of time and personal growth on our relationships with people, places. Ishmael, on the other hand, takes a macro approach to viewing the natural place of humans in the world.

Both of these books are unconventional, and even uncomfortable to read at times, but they challenge me to view life from a different perspective. It can be extremely easy to fall into the trap of thinking with one mindset, but doing so limits progress.

It’s not comfortable to view the world, or a sale, or a conversation, from somebody else’s perspective, but I think it’s incredibly important.

These books help me remember to step outside of my comfort zone, and they’re also just excellent quick reads!

What inspires you? New ideas inspire me, from wherever they may come!

Some of my more work-oriented favorite content that I recommend to everyone:

And so so much more — especially since I actually prefer fiction!

What about this inspires you? These inspire me because they force you to think about stuff differently: why things happen, how they happen, what are the implications of them happening in that way?

It’s so easy to just take things at face value and not spend the time to understand or, better yet, challenge it at all. Introducing new thinking into your life is one of the most constructive, valuable ways to spend your time and I only wish I did it more.

What inspires you? The advancement of technology and its effect on the human race is something that I have always taken an interest in. People like Elon Musk who are dedicating their lives to advancing humanity truly inspire me — whether that is through the colonization of other planets or improving our lives here on earth.

I’d suggest taking a look at the Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance for an inside look at his other-worldly goals.

What about this inspires you? Being so dedicated to a cause that is beyond the scope of “me” is what is truly inspiring. This is one of the many reasons why I enjoy life at BlueConic.

Not only are we advancing technology, but the team has a greater goal that brings us all together as one – forgetting about the individual “me’s” within the team.

What inspires you? Angela Duckworth. Read her book, Grit. Watch her TED Talk as well: “The Power of Passion and Perseverance.” Change how you think about what you can achieve.

What about this inspires you? The core idea of her study of grit is that perseverance, even when faced with obstacles, is the key indicator of success even outweighing IQ and natural talent.

You may be thinking, “Duh!” But take a second to reflect on how many times a day you don’t feel like doing something because it isn’t fun. Gritty people just won’t give up. It’s an admirable trait!

What inspires you? Let’s see: I’ll go with 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene, The Sales Bible by Jeffrey Gitomer, Decoded by Jay-Z, and Message to Garcia by Elbert Hubbard.

What about this inspires you? Each of these books inspire me, but more importantly, they collectively give me a new perspective to take on my daily mission with no excuses.
