You’ve learned about our fearless COO Cory, engineering gurus like Floran, and sales specialists such as Connor, to name a few #BlueCrew members (just a sampling of our talented team) we’ve highlighted in our “BlueConic Dreamers” blog series.
Now, let’s get to know another individual BlueConic team: Patrick Crane.
All about Patrick Crane
Name: Patrick Crane
Title: Corporate Accounts Executive
Where did you grow up?: Vernon, CT
What are two truths and a lie about yourself?
- I’ve lived in Europe, and my favorite place I saw was Croatia.
- I have a Harry Potter tattoo.
- I have had some original poetry published.
(The lie: #1. I did live in Europe, but I’ve never been to Croatia! Something I’m hoping to change soon.)
What have you learned in your time at BlueConic?
A: The beauty of a startup is that you have freedom to break away from the status quo and look at age-old problems with different lenses. As an account executive, I’m constantly trying to improve the way I engage with people to get better. Everyone on the team is the same, but we all do it differently. That variety makes us a powerful and well-rounded team, and I enjoy learning something new from my colleagues every day.
What has challenged you the most at BlueConic?
A: When I came to BlueConic, I had never done a discovery call, a demo, or any part of the sales process, past getting someone to take a 30-minute meeting with someone else. I dealt with that challenge by learning it was OK to mess up. By taking away the fear of failure and having a great support staff in place, I was able to smash that challenge ahead of schedule.
What, if anything, would you change about BlueConic?
A: I would have let our co-founders, Bart and Patrick, take me to get a “Double Awesome” sooner. If you haven’t had one yet and you work in Boston, go track down the Mei Mei food truck right now.
What’s your advice to the newest #BlueCrew members?
A: Embrace the grind and laugh as much as you can. It’s hard work building a company, but if you embrace the challenges and celebrate the moments of levity that naturally come your way, you’ll love coming to work.
What made you believe BlueConic was right for you?
A: I wanted to go to a company where my unique background was a positive and not a question mark. I vibed very well from the beginning with Kevin, Cory, Bart, and the rest of our leadership team. They let me babble on about my background and seemed genuinely curious about who I was and what made me tick. That really stuck with me and made me feel like this was the right opportunity to take.
What’s your big focus at the moment? In the future?
A: Right now, I’m focused on closing deals with prospects, ensuring they’re ready to get going with our best-in-class CDP< and helping BlueConic grow further.
What is your favorite BlueConic product feature?
A: The Segment Discovery tool. It always elicits a jaw drop when I get to demo it to our prospects, and I never stop getting excited when it comes up in a demo. I think it is one of the coolest and most powerful parts of our customer data platform.
What is your proudest moment so far at BlueConic?
A: Being able to run discovery calls and demos with confidence. Going from zero experience to being able to run them on my own has been my proudest achievement so far.
What would others be surprised to learn about your job?
A: Making 100 calls to get one person to speak with you is standard for the industry. The biggest challenge in the role is never getting too high or too low about any particular day.
Which #BlueCrew member would you switch places with?
A: Anyone on the marketing team, just to see how the other half lives and learn more about what they go through day to day so I can make their job easier, and vice versa.
What’s your favorite sushi order?
A: I’ll go with the 3-Maki Combo: spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and a Philly roll.
What’s your favorite emoji?
What is your favorite sports team?
A: I’ll say the Liverpool Football Club.
What’s your favorite quote or motto?
A: “History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it.” — Winston Churchill
What’s your favorite office furniture?
A: I’ll twist this around and say my least favorite: the bean bag chairs — deadly during early morning meetings, so sit in them at your own peril.
What is something on your bucket list?
A: I’d love to participate on a national team (in any role) when lacrosse is an Olympic sport.
Who is your biggest hero?
A: I’ve never been one to have a single person I look up to. I try to learn from as many people as I can and find inspiration in different places.
What’s your at-work Spotify playlist?
A: Any kind of 90s jams so I can listen to Bootz sing.
What’s your nickname (or favorite one)?
A: It’s “Gainz” (but not by my choice).
What did you want to be while growing up?
A: I’ll go with stand-up comedian.
